Widening pre-drilled pilot holes in complex rocky formations requires substantial torque resistance and exceptional cutter durability. Bloom Machinery’s Tricone Hole Openers (HDD Rock Reamers) are engineered specifically for horizontal directional drilling (HDD), municipal pipeline crossings, and deep, large-diameter water well construction.
Built on a massive, heavy-wall alloy steel mandrel, our hole openers feature high-performance tricone cutter segments securely welded or pocket-mounted to the body. This structural layout provides optimal load distribution and eliminates the risk of losing a cutter section downhole. Depending on your strata, choose between high-grade TCI cutters for crushing abrasive hard sandstones and granite, or Steel Tooth cutters with tungsten carbide weld-overlay (hardfacing) for fast, cost-effective runs in soft clays and shales. Featuring replaceable fluid jet nozzles, our reamers ensure efficient cutting evacuation and keep torque spikes to an absolute minimum.
